Discover Savannah’s history of plagues, pandemics and medical history.
Meet Your Guide:
Matt Schafer, RN
My name’s Matt Schafer, and I’m a nurse at Memorial Hospital. During my time as a nurse in Savannah, I’ve discovered that this city has an incredibly diverse and complicated medical history. For example:
⚪ The company Coca-Cola has deep medicinal ties to Savannah, GA.
⚪ A soldier brought here by George Washington to improve our military was probably a woman.
⚪ Although Jews were not allowed at the time, a Jewish doctor’s family was a major reason our city survived the early days of colonization.
There are tons of small historical tidbits in my 90-minute walking tour. Click the link below to see my schedule! However, if there’s no time that works for you, please fill out the contact form—I’ll see if I can make something work!
